The Pharmaceutical Alliance commissioned qualitative research with GPs, endocrinologists, diabetes nurse educators and patients into the reasons patients are not reaching treatment target. The results informed The Pharmaceutical Alliance's thinking of next steps through the development of an action-oriented electronic decision support software (EDSS) tool based on the NHMRC diabetes guidelines for use in the primary care setting. more>
The Pharmaceutical Alliance, along with the Chairs of the four peak national advisory bodies, (Australian Pharmaceutical Advisory Council [APAC], National Prescribing Service [NPS], Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Council [PBAC] and Pharmaceutical Health and Rational Use of Medicines [PHARM] Commitee) hosted forums to discuss pressing issues around QUM. Objectives of the workshops were to provide forums for debate for a broad range of stakeholders and to try and identify key priority issues that could be taken forward by various groups interested in improving the implementation and application of QUM. This program involved the application of evidence-based best practice guidelines for asthma management into EDSS and was designed for GP use. The project delivered several notable outcomes; amongst others it demonstrated a high level of ICP acceptance by clinicians, increased use of asthma management plans, and patient support for the GP using the system during their asthma consultations. more>
The CARDIAB database supports GPs in managing diabetes and CVD patients – register/recall system and utilisation of health information for continuous improvement and adherence to best practice. The partnership was developed in 1999 with UNSW, Macarthur Division of General Practice, National Heart Foundation and InTouch Consulting. more>
